"And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth... But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee."

- Deuteronomy 28:1, 15 (KJV, emphases added)

"The principle that the church hath power to institute any thing or ceremony belonging to the worship of God, either as to matter or manner, beyond the observance of such circumstances as necessarily attend such ordinances as Christ Himself hath instituted, lies at the bottom of all the horrible superstition and idolatry, of all the confusion, blood, persecution, and wars, that have for so long a season spread themselves over the face of the Christian world.

FEATURED RESOURCE: Idolatry Brings Economic Calamity & God's Wrath/Curse Upon Individuals, Families Churches & Nations by Dr. Ferrell Griswold (Free MP3)

An excellent introduction to the far reaching negative consequences of idolatry, as God hates idolatry and judges it in His wrath at the appointed time. Many examples of idolatry in the churches of our day are exposed and rebuked in the resources below. Nevertheless, keep in mind, that in the broadest terms, idolatry is placing anything before God and His glory in your thoughts, speech, actions, etc.

AFFILIATE-160x600-D.png "Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king hearkened unto them. And they left the house of the Lord God of their fathers, and served groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass. Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again unto the Lord; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear. And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, which stood above the people, and said unto them, Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the Lord, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken the Lord, he hath also forsaken you."

Regulative Principle of Worship in the New Testament (Second Commandment In Worship) by Greg Price (Free Video)

Regulative Principle of Worship in the Old Testament (Second Commandment In Worship) by Greg Price (Free Video)

"The Regulative Principle of Worship declares that God alone is sovereign in worship. The Regulative Principle of Worship simply applies the principles of Calvinism (i.e. God's sovereign Lordship) to worship, whereas the view that what God doesn't forbid in worship is permitted is applying the principles of Arminianism (i.e. man's sovereign lordship) to worship. Just as fallen man naturally seeks to impose his will in salvation (e.g. "I can cooperate with God in salvation"or "I have a natural freedom to choose Christ"), so fallen man naturally seeks to impose his will in worship ("I can cooperate with God in worship by adding what I desire so long as God doesn't specifically forbid it"). But just as God condemns a man-centered salvation, so God condemns a man-centered worship (Col. 2:23 specifically condemns all will-worship i.e. all worship instituted by man)."

Worship: The Regulative Principle of Worship in History by Dr. Reg Barrow

"The Protestant Reformation was a conflict over many critical issues. Of all the issues contested between Romanists and Reformers, no issue was more crucial than the question of true worship. John Knox displayed a preeminent concern for worship. Throughout his ministry, the Reformer proclaimed the scriptural law of worship: all forms of worship (and all religious ceremonies) must possess clear scriptural warrant, if they are to be admitted as valid means of worship. This concept has subsequently been called the regulative principle of worship, because it regulates our approach to God in worship."

250x250-Faded-Knox-Falconer-Quote "The matter is not of so small importance, as some suppose. The question is, whether God or man ought to be obeyed in matters of religion? In mouth, all do confess that only God is worthy of sovereignty. But after many -- by the instigation of the devil, and by the presumptuous arrogance of carnal wisdom and worldly policy -- have defaced God's holy ordinance, men fear not to follow what laws and common consent (mother of all mischief) have established and commanded. But thus continually I can do nothing but hold, and affirm all things polluted, yea, execrable and accursed, which God by his Word has not sanctified in his religion. God grant you his Holy Spirit rightly to judge."

"The regulative principle of worship has clear implications for those who want to promote the celebration of Christmas. The Regulative Principle forces those who celebrate Christmas to prove from Scripture that God has authorized the celebrating of such a day. This, in fact, is impossible."

"I would to God that every holy day (including Christmas - ed.) whatsoever besides the Lord's day were abolished. That zeal which brought them first in, was without all warrant of the Word, and merely followed corrupt reason, forsooth to drive out the holy days of the pagans, as one nail drives out another. Those holy days have been so tainted with superstitions that I wonder we tremble not at their very names."

"...by communicating with idolaters in their rites and ceremonies, we ourselves become guilty of idolatry; even as Ahaz, 2 Kings 16:10, was an idolater, eo ipso, that he took the pattern of an altar from idolaters. Forasmuch, then, as kneeling before the consecrated bread, the sign of the cross, surplice, festival days (like Christmas, Easter, etc.-ed.), bishopping, bowing down to the altar, administration of the sacraments in private places, etc., are the wares of Rome, the baggage of Babylon, the trinkets of the whore, the badges of Popery, the ensigns of Christ's enemies, and the very trophies of antichrist, -- we cannot conform, communicate and symbolise with the idolatrous Papists in the use of the same, without making ourselves idolaters by participation. Shall the chaste spouse of Christ take upon her the ornaments of the whore? Shall the Israel of God symbolise with her who is spiritually called Sodom and Egypt? Shall the Lord's redeemed people wear the ensigns of their captivity? Shall the saints be seen with the mark of the beast? Shall the Christian church be like the antichristian, the holy like the profane, religion like superstition, the temple of God like the synagogue of Satan?"

War-Against-The-Idols-Carlos-Eire.jpg "If it be asked, then, by what things chiefly the Christian religion has a standing amongst us, and maintains its truth, it will be found that the following two not only occupy the principal place, but comprehend under them all the other parts, and consequently the whole substance of Christianity, viz., a knowledge first, of the right way to worship God; and secondly of the source from which salvation is to be sought. When these are kept out of view, though we may glory in the name of Christians, our profession is empty and vain."

John Calvin on the Regulative Principle of Worship Against Idolatry

"...which I commanded them not, neither came it into my heart."

John-Calvin-With-Bible-B&W.jpg
JOHN CALVIN

"God here cuts off from men every occasion for making evasions, since he condemns by this one phrase, "I have not commanded them," whatever the Jews devised. There is then no other argument needed to condemn superstitions, than that they are not commanded by God: for when men allow themselves to worship God according to their own fancies, and attend not to his commands, they pervert true religion. And if this principle was adopted by the Papists, all those fictitious modes of worship, in which they absurdly exercise themselves, would fall to the ground. It is indeed a horrible thing for the Papists to seek to discharge their duties towards God by performing their own superstitions. There is an immense number of them, as it is well known, and as it manifestly appears. Were they to admit this principle, that we cannot rightly worship God except by obeying his word, they would be delivered from their deep abyss of error. The Prophet's words then are very important, when he says, that God had commanded no such thing, and that it never came to his mind; as though he had said, that men assume too much wisdom, when they devise what he never required, nay, what he never knew."

Westminster Confession Of Faith Color Graphic The Regulative Principle of Worship as found in God's Word is accurately summarized for us in the Westminster Confession of Faith 21:1:

But the acceptable way of worshiping the true God is instituted by himself, and so limited by his own revealed will, that he may not be worshipped according to the imaginations and devices of men, or the suggestions of Satan, under any visible representation, or any other way not prescribed in the holy Scripture.

In like manner, carefully note the answer given to question 109 of the Larger Catechism ("What are the sins forbidden in the second commandment?"):

The sins forbidden in the second commandment are, all devising, counselling, commanding, using and any wise approving, any religious worship not instituted by God himself; tolerating a false religion; the making any representation of God, of all or of any of the three persons, either inwardly in our mind, or outwardly in any kind of image or likeness of any creature whatsoever... corrupting the worship of God, adding to it, or taking from it, whether invented and taken up of ourselves, or received by tradition from others, though under the title of antiquity, custom, devotion, good intent, or any other pretence whatsoever... all neglect, contempt, hindering, and opposing the worship and ordinances which God hath appointed.

A short summary of the Regulative Principle of Worship is simply this: What Scripture does not authorize it forbids. Most churches (Romish churches, Orthodox churches, Anglican churches, Lutheran, Baptist, Methodist, Pentecostal, Evangelical, and most Reformed and Presbyterian churches) are operating on an altogether different principle from the one just stated. The principle they are operating on is: What Scripture does not forbid, it permits. Since Christ in the New Covenant has not expressly forbidden drama, dancing, candles, incense, musical instruments, uninspired hymns, crossing oneself, banners, crosses, images, etc. within the house of God, the vast majority of churches today permit these (to lesser or greater degrees) and many more practices into their worship services.

However, the Regulative Principle of Worship would prevent all the above practices into the worship of God because they are all without the authorization of Christ, the mediator of the New Covenant. In other words, every religious practice or symbol in the worship of God's people must have a divine warrant from God's Word either by (1) command; or by (2) authorized example of the apostles; or by (3) good and necessary inference.

John Calvin on Separation from False Worship

"In 1550, Calvin proudly wrote to Melancthon: "many, in order to avoid idolatry, are fleeing France and are coming to us in voluntary exile." Calvin often refers to idolatry as if were a plague: Once an area becomes infected with this virus, the only way the residents can escape contagion is by fleeing. Those who remain behind, surrounded by the disease, risk infection every day as long as they come into contact with its victims. Calvin was aware that not everyone was free to emigrate, but he continually stressed that for those who found it possible, it was the wisest course to follow:

Now, consider whether you can have peace with God and your own conscience while you persevere in your present state ... We have no direct revelation commanding us to leave the country, but since we have the commandment to honor God in body and soul, wherever we may be, what else could we do? It is certainly to us, then, that these words are also addressed, 'Get thee out of thy country and from thy kindred' [Gen. 12:1]; as long as we are there constrained to act against our conscience, and cannot live for the glory of God.

Calvin adds that one should regard as "filth and dung" everything which hinders one from being a good Christian; if anything separates one from God, who is the true life, then it can only lead to death."

- Carlos Eire, War Against the Idols: The Reformation of Worship from Erasmus to Calvin (Cambridge University Press, 1990), pp. 260-261, emphases added..

Calvin-come_out_from_them-Anti-Nicodemite-Writings.jpg "Some one will therefore ask me what counsel I would like to give to a believer who thus dwells in some Egypt or Babylon where he may not worship God purely, but is forced by the common practice to accommodate himself to bad things. The first advice would be to leave (i.e. relocate -- GB) if he could. ... If someone has no way to depart, I would counsel him to consider whether it would be possible for him to abstain from all idolatry in order to preserve himself pure and spotless toward God in both body and soul. Then let him worship God in private (i.e., keep separate from public worship where idolatry, or violations of the second commandment or regulative principle of worship, is practiced and taught - RB), praying him to restore his poor church to its right estate."

Christmas Is Part Of Roman Catholic (Papacy/Antichrist) Missionary Strategy And High-Handed Idolatry

Brain Schwertley Color Graphic
Brian Schwertley
"Christmas was not celebrated by the apostolic church.
It was not celebrated during the first few centuries of the church. As late as A.D. 245, Origen (Hom. 8 on Leviticus) repudiated the idea of keeping the birthday of Christ, "as if he were a king Pharaoh." By the middle of the 4th century, many churches in the Latin west were celebrating Christmas.During the 5th century, Christmas became an official Roman Catholic holy day. In A.D. 534, Christmas was recognized as an official holy day by the Roman state.

The reason that Christmas became a church holy day has nothing to do with the Bible. The Bible does not give the date of Christ's birth. Nowhere in the Bible are we commanded to celebrate Christmas.

Christmas (as well as many other pagan practices) was adopted by the Roman church as a missionary strategy."

Christmas Condemned By Christ (2/3) by Greg Price (Puritan Worship Series)

Christmas Condemned By Christ (3/3) by Greg Price (Puritan Worship Series)

SET SUMMARY: Greg Price shows how the teaching of the Lord Jesus Christ directly condemns all man-invented holy days.

Scripture and history are brought to bear most specifically on the celebration of Christ-mass, demonstrating why it is a sin to celebrate this day.

It is also noted that Scripture never commands the celebration of this day and that there is no evidence that Christ and the Apostles ever celebrated this day -- in fact, this sycretism of paganism and "Babylonian" Christianity was not first celebrated until 354 A.D. (when December 25 was chosen, in accord with the Pagan feast of Saturnalia, as the day of "celebration").

Price also clearly shows that to call yourself Reformed while you hold on to this Roman Catholic/Pagan monument of idolatry makes for a serious contradiction in your testimony -- as the best Reformed churches have always disciplined those (in accord with Scriptural teaching) who broke the second and fourth commandments by keeping antichristian festival days like Christ-mass, Easter, etc.

Bill Mencarow Recommends the Puritan Hard Drive BLue Graphic  Christmas Defenders Refuted by Brian Schwertley (5 free MP3s) A fantastic series refuting 'Protestants' on the road to Rome! The first sermon in this important series exposes how some modern Protestants are leading people astray from biblical (Reformation) teaching on worship and holy days -- and right into the arms of Papal Antichrist! Schwertley mentions and/or convincingly refutes errors by James Jordan, Horne, Meyers, Strawbridge, Steve Schlissel, R.J. Gore, John Frame, Peter Leithart, Doug Wilson, and Norman Shepherd. Sadly, though a number of these men first headed toward Rome regarding worship they are now even polluting the doctrine of justification by faith alone, in a further step toward adopting Romish heresies. First they rejected sound teaching related to the second commandment (worship) and now are further apostatizing by promoting errors in opposition to the first commandment (on justification by faith alone). This message is must listening for everyone who who seeks to follow the Lord, as He has revealed Himself in Scripture, in all things. Remember that the Lord Jesus Christ said in John 14:15, "If ye love me, keep my commandments," and in Matthew 15:9, "But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men," -- then ask yourself, "Where in Scripture is Christ-mass keeping commanded by God"?

An sensational series of sermons and a "must listen" for all seekers after truth who are interested in what the Bible teaches about holy days (holidays), including Christmas and Easter.

This set of messages is certainly among the best series of sermons we have heard on holy days, excepting Dr. Dilday's position on headcoverings (see The Customary Practice Of Headcoverings: An Exegetical/Historical Study Of 1 Corinthians 11:2-16 Presented In A Series Of Letters by Greg Price).

Faithful listeners will be well rewarded for investing time in listening to all seven messages below.

The crowning sermon of this fine series on little heard Bible truth related to removing Antichrist's holy days, removing the monuments to idolatry of the Papal Antichrist, the duty of the civil magistrate [rulers] in these matters, errors of Dispensationalism, the egalitarian American amendments to the Westminster Confession of Faith, Jonathan Edwards on Antichrist and his holy days, David Steel on separation, etc.

250x250-Faded-Silversides-Quote Dr. Steven Dilday is a major modern-day Reformation scholar and has produced an amazing series of messages in the "History of Holy Days" series featured above. Dr. Dilday is also Pastor of Liberty and Grace Reformed Church in Northern Virginia, President of The Matthew Poole Project, Professor of Hebrew and Director of the Ph.D. Program in Puritan History and Literature at Whitefield Theological Seminary. Touch the Infinite...
Through the Puritan Hard Drive!
"For a number of years now, I have followed, and benefited from, the work of Still Waters Revival Books, particularly the Reformation and Puritan Bookshelf CD sets... and now the Puritan Hard Drive.

The Puritan Hard Drive is a remarkable accomplishment!
The common Christian can now have a world-class Presbyterian and Reformed library at his fingertips, for only pennies per volume.

I do not think that it is an exaggeration to say that the Puritan Hard Drivepresents an historic and singular opportunity.

The works on the Puritan Hard Drive have been invaluable to me in sermon preparation and in improving personal and familial piety. If these had been the only blessings attached to the reading of these documents, the expense (even if it had been much greater) would have been justified; but there is more here.

In this present time, a great many Presbyterians (particularly in North America) have forgotten and implicitly (perhaps unwittingly) rejected their Presbyterian heritage. Strangely, Westminster confessing churches have rejected the theological distinctives of the Westminster Standards.

Although the Westminster Assembly produced a beautiful statement of soteriological Calvinism, the histories clearly demonstrate that soteriology was not the principle focus, nor chief interest, of the Assembly. The Westminster Assembly was primarily concerned with uniformity in worship (in accordance with the Regulative Principle), the form of church government (Presbyterianism jus divinum), and Church-State relations (the Establishment Principle). It is a sad irony that the great and distinctive attainments of the Westminster Assembly have been ignored and rejected by so many Westminster confessing churches.  250x250-Faded-Spurgeon-Gibson-PHD-Quote

However, we may yet entertain the hope that these great attainments are rejected largely because of ignorance. The best books on these subjects have not been readily available; but (thanks be to God) they are available again on the Puritan Hard Drive.

For anyone interested in recovering our Presbyterian and Reformed past, the Puritan Hard Drive is a must.

It is my hope and prayer that the Puritan Hard Drive will be used by God to bring to light the things that were hidden, to call to remembrance the things that were forgotten."

Days, Months, Seasons and Years by Brian Schwertley This sermons sets forth the classic Puritan, Presbyterian and Reformation view of holy days against human inventions in the worship of God, including the liturgical calendar. This message also looks at and refutes some modern arguments by wayward Christians who try to justify what the Devil loves and Scripture condemns regarding holy days. It also upholds, based on the second and fourth commandments (or what is sometimes called the "Scriptural Law of Worship" or the "Regulative Principle of Worship"), the Lord's Day or Christian Sabbath. This MP3 also deals with the "adiaphora" or "things indifferent" argument anddemonstrates who is really legalistic when the issue of holy days is debated.

"
Christmas was accurately depicted (by the Puritans - ed.) by such names as the Profane Man's Ranting Day, the Superstitious Man's Idol Day, the Papist's Massing Day, the Old Heathen's Feasting Day, the Multitude's Idle Day, and Satan - that Adversary's - Working Day."- X-Mas: The Biggest Pagan Holiday/Holyday of the Year by Dr. Scott Johnson

Against-Human-Ceremonies-William-Ames.jpg"I would to God that every holy day (including Christmas - ed.) whatsoever besides the Lord's day were abolished. That zeal which brought them first in, was without all warrant of the Word, and merely followed corrupt reason, forsooth to drive out the holy days of the pagans, as one nail drives out another. Those holy days have been so tainted with superstitions that I wonder we tremble not at their very names." - Martin Bucer, cited in William Ames, A Fresh Suit Against Human Ceremonies in God's Worship (1633) , pp. 359-60.

Increase-Mather.jpg
Increase Mather

"1. In the pure Apostolical times there was no Christ-mass day observed in the Church of God. We ought to keep to the primitive Pattern. That Book of Scripture which is called, The Acts of the Apostles, saith nothing of their keeping Christ's Nativity as an Holy-day. The [Cent. 2.] Centuriators, and many others take notice that in the first Ages of the New-Testament Church, there were no stated Anniversary Holy-days among Christians. Easter was kept a long time before the Feast of the Nativity, and yet the Apostles never ordained that, as [Lib. 5. c. cap. 22.] Socrates (the most excellent of the Ancient Ecclesiastical Historians) does truly observe. Had there been the least hint of any such day observed in the primitive times, learned Vossius would have told the world of it. One [Voetius in Disput. de Nativ. Christi. p. 22.] saith of him, Si pergama dextra defendi possunt etiam hac defensa fuissent . But he acknowledges that the Feast of Christ's Nativity was not kept in the first nor yet in the second Century. After Prelatical writers have said all they can say, Chemnitius [ Contra Conc. Trial. part. 4 de Festis. p. 262.] his words will be found true. Anniversarium diem Natalis Christi celebratum fuisse, apud vetustissimos nunquam legitur . The most Ancient writers speak not the least word concerning the celebration of Christ's Birth-day.

2. The word Christ-mass is enough to cause such as are studious of reformation to dislike what shall be known by a name so superstitious. Why should Protestants own any thing which has the name of Mass in it? How unsuitable is it to join Christ and Mass together? i.e., Christ and Antichrist. But what Communion has light with Darkness, and what concord hath Christ with Belial? 2 Cor. 6:15. some of the Jesuits [So the Rhemists.] have advised that endeavours should be used to keep up their old terms and names, such as Priest, Altar, Christ-mass, Candlemass, and the like, hoping that by means thereof in time the things would follow the Names whereby their memory is preserved."

George Gillespie Larger Graphic
George Gillespie
George Gillespie, one of the Scottish Commissioners to the Westminster Assembly, and one of the greatest theologians since the days of the Apostles, writes,

"By communicating with idolaters in their rites and ceremonies, we ourselves become guilty of idolatry; even as Ahaz, 2 Kings 16:10, was an idolater, eo ipso, that he took the pattern of an altar from idolaters. Forasmuch, then, as kneeling before the consecrated bread, the sign of the cross, surplice, festival days (like Christmas-ed.), bishopping, bowing down to the altar, administration of the sacraments in private places, etc., are the wares of Rome, the baggage of Babylon, the trinkets of the whore, the badges of Popery, the ensigns of Christ's enemies, and the very trophies of antichrist, -- we cannot conform, communicate and symbolise with the idolatrous Papists in the use of the same, without making ourselves idolaters by participation.

Shall the Christian church be like the antichristian, the holy like the profane, religion like superstition, the temple of God like the synagogue of Satan?" (A Dispute Against English Popish Ceremonies, in Gillespie's Works volume one, p. 80, SWRB reprint, or as free MP3s at A Dispute Against the English Popish Ceremonies emphases added).

Best extra-biblical book ever written!
I. The light of nature showeth that there is a God, who hath lordship and sovereignty over all; is good, and doeth good unto all; and is therefore to be feared, loved, praised, called upon, trusted in, and served with all the heart, and with all the soul, and with all the might. But the acceptable way of worshipping the true God is instituted by himself, and so limited by his own revealed will, that he may not be worshipped according to the imaginations and devices of men, or the suggestions of Satan, under any visible representation or any other way not prescribed in the holy Scripture (emphases added).

VII. As it is of the law of nature, that, in general, a due proportion of time be set apart for the worship of God; so, in his Word, by a positive, moral, and perpetual commandment, binding all men in all ages, he hath particularly appointed one day in seven for a Sabbath, to be kept holy unto him: which, from the beginning of the world to the resurrection of Christ, was the last day of the week; and, from the resurrection of Christ, was changed into the first day of the week, which in Scripture is called the Lord's Day, and is to be continued to the end of the world as the Christian Sabbath (emphases added).

BLOG: DO DEMONS LOVE CHRISTMAS?
Shows how Satan loves his demon-inspired, man-made holy days, this instance being a clear example of one of the ways in which devils come as "angels of light" (2 Corinthians 11:14), feigning unscriptural religiosity to deceive the ignorant and scandalous.

When the church has been at her strongest these Papist/Pagan/demonic holy-days (Christmass, Easter, etc.) have been matters of discipline, as noted in the free online quotes at http://www.swrb.com/newslett/freebook/holyday.htm.
These quotes also demonstrate that
civil sanctions, in accord with Scripture, have at times also been enacted. For example,
"It was for this very reason that in Calvin's Geneva you could have been fined or imprisoned for celebrating Christmas. It was at the request of the Westminster Assembly that the English Parliament in 1644 passed an act forbidding the observance of Christmas, calling it a heathen holiday. In an appendix to their 'Directory for the Public Worship of God' the Westminster divines said: 'There is no day commanded in scripture to be kept holy under the gospel but the Lord's day, which is the Christian Sabbath. Festival days, vulgarly called 'Holy-days', having no warrant in the word of God, are not to be continued.' (See also, James Bannerman, The Church of Christ, Vol. I, pages 406-420). When the Puritans came to America they passed similar laws. The early New Englanders worked steadily through December 25, 1620, in studied neglect of the day. About 40 years later the General Court of Massachusetts decreed punishment for those who kept the season: '...anyone who is found observing, by abstinence from labor, feasting, or any other way, any such days as Christmas Day, shall pay for every such offense five shillings'" (Is Christmas Christian?, Schneider, http://www.swrb.com/newslett/actualNLs/Xmas_ch2.htm).
Liturgical Antinomianism by Brian Schwertley (8 free MP3s) A series of sermons about how Roman Catholic idolatry enters Protestantism. This whole MP3 series contains very important messages about how Satan is corrupting the worship of God in our day, using men (like James Jordan, John Frame, Doug Wilson, Steve Schlissel, Jeffrey Meyers, Vern Poythress, et al.) who claim some connections to the Reformed faith, but who, in reality, teach principles of worship much closer to Rome and the Papacy than to the Reformation and the best Reformers. To find out why John Calvin would have excommunicated both John Frame and James Jordan, given the idolatrous nature of their beliefs and public teaching regarding worship, please see http://www.swrb.com/newslett/a ctualNLs/frameexc.htm. The free article, "A Warning Against the False and Dangerous Views of James Jordan Concerning Worship," is at http://www.swrb.com/newslett/a ctualNLs/blastjj.htm and will also expose more about the heresy and idolatry noted throughout Brian Schwertley's "must hear" MP3 series entitled "Liturgical Antinomianism." This series also contains many clues as to how Papal superstition (Roman Catholicism) and will worship (idolatry) is introduced into Protestant Churches. Sermon four is a much needed study refuting the nonsense, idolatry and heresy of James Jordan. More refuting James Jordan the can be found at http://www.swrb.com/newslett /freebook/refworsh.htm (search for "Jordan"). The following quote, from Kevin Reed's, The Canterbury Tales, is apropos,

In a Lutheran/Anglican posture, Mr. Jordan is asserting that the church has been granted broad discretionary power to establish means of worship. This is similar to the Anabaptist notions, which allow the 'moving of the Spirit' to govern the present activities of the church, without any direct appeal to the law of God. In both cases, the church has the power to worship God according to the devices of men. However, the Anabaptist opts for subjectivism (due to an emphasis on individualism); the other opts for traditionalism (with an emphasis on the corporate consensus). Yet, the law of God rejects both a subjective appeal (Deut. 12:8), and an appeal to the consensus (Deut. 12:30-31). Rather, the biblical admonition directs men to the scriptural pattern of worship (Deut. 12:32).

In sermon eight Brian Schwertley conclusively demonstrates how Jordan's views on worship are seriously flawed and how his writings "often show more charity toward Papists, than toward the Reformed faith" (p. 28,  Canterbury Tales by Kevin Reed).

What Fellowship Hath Christ and Belial? by Douglas W. Comin

An examination of the religious celebration of Christmas in light of the Scriptural duty of separation and the Regulative Principle of worship. Below is a quote from the article. 250x250-Faded-Rawson-Westminster-Quote

"The real meaning of Christmas is compromise - a sinful fusion between the worship of the true God and the worship of the pagan world that was instituted by a church which was not prepared to cast down the idols of the nations and burn the Asherah poles - or Yule logs - and enforce the pure worship of the God of the Bible. We must not join with them. We must not follow in the ways of Jeroboam, son of Nebat. We must not be yoked together with unbelievers. Let us reclaim instead the glory and delight of the Lord's Holy Day and learn to call the Sabbath a delight. Let us rejoice together in the precious sacrament which Jesus has given to His Church as a celebration of His life, death, and resurrection. And in doing these things we are promised a blessing from God: "Therefore, come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing and I will receive you and you will be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty. Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God." 250x250-Faded-Knox-Falconer-Quote

PAGAN ORIGINS OF BIRTHDAYS & BIRTHDAYS THE HIGHEST OF ALL HOLY DAYS (HOLIDAYS) IN THE SATANIC BIBLE

Pope Benedict XVI
"The word for Christmas in late Old English is Cristes Maessethe Mass of Christ... Christmas was not among the earliest festivals of the Church. Irenaeus and Tertullian omit it from their lists of feasts; Origen, glancing perhaps at the discreditable imperial Natalitia, asserts (in Lev. Hom. viii in Migne, P.G., XII, 495) that in the Scriptures sinners alone, not saints, celebrate their birthday

... The well-known solar feast, however, of Natalis Invicti, celebrated on 25 December, has a strong claim on the responsibility for our December date. For the history of the solar cult, its position in the Roman Empire, and syncretism with Mithraism, see Cumont's epoch-making "Textes et Monuments" etc... Though Rome gives three Masses to the Nativity only, Ildefonsus, a Spanish bishop, in 845, alludes to a triple mass on Nativity, Easter, Whitsun, and Transfiguration (P.L., CVI, 888)." - From The Catholic Encyclopedia.

Pope-In-Santa-Hat.png"Of all the feasts throughout the year the celebration of Christmas Day and Christmas Eve are the most popular... The date of December 25 was established about the year 320, and the Popes seem to have chosen the twenty-fifth day of December principally to divert the attention of the people from the celebration of a pagan feast of the Mithras cult which was called the "Birthday of the Unconquered Sun" (Natalis Solis Invicti)... Throughout the Middle Ages, Christmas came to be celebrated more and more. Especially during the period from the twelfth to the sixteenth centuries all the arts and crafts of the Christian nations were made serviceable to the festivities associated with the Nativity of the Saviour. Plays and songs, carols and dances, spices and flowers, images and statues - all creation was made to serve the celebration of the feast. The foundation of all these customs and traditions was always Holy Mass - the Christ-Mass - the Divine Office and the sacramentalsThe unfortunate zeal of the Puritans has certainly influenced the American celebration of ChristmasIt is very difficult in our day to realize that Christmas was outlawed in New England until the second half of the last century. As late as 1870, classes were held in the public schools of Boston on Christmas day, and any truant pupil was gravely punished or even publicly dismissed from school." - "Meaning and History of Christmas," CatholicCulture.org.

Obama Hand Shake With Pope
"For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies." (Rev. 18:3)

"Christmas. This is the name of the day on which is wont to be celebrated the idolatrous Romish sacrifice of the mass, in honor of the birth of Christ. As nearly as can be now ascertained, the day was first set apart for this purpose by the authority of the bishop at Rome, toward the close of the fourth century, or early in the fifth. ... We do not acknowledge the authority of its appointment. If the religious observance of Christmas was divinely enjoined upon us, or if we had evidence in the writings of the apostles, that they observed it, or that they taught the churches which they established to do so, then we should feel ourselves obliged to observe the day. But as Protestants, we long ago abjured the authority of the Pope of Rome, and we still utterly repudiate his right to legislate for us, either over our consciences or our conduct. It was an essential principle of the Reformation, which we hold to have been sound, and the only principle which could have been safe, to reject every thing which appeared manifestly to be of human contrivance, and thus to carry the church back, both in its doctrines and its practices, to the incorrupt simplicity of the apostolic times." - "Christmas," from The Reformed Presbyterian magazine, January, 1851.

Vatican-Christmas-Tree.jpg
Vatican Christ-Mass Tree

"The Romish Church, in opposition to the word of God, has a great multiplicity of annually returning sacred seasons. The 25th day of December is one of those seasons; at which time, originally, a heathen festival was held. 'This day was next baptized into a Romish mass for the birth of Christ.' The truth is, the day of Christ's nativity has been irrecoverably lost. Had this date been designed for special religious veneration, its date would have been preserved in the Holy Record, and a divine command given for its proper observanceThe absence both of the date and command, makes it as clear to us as a sunbeam, that the natal day of our Saviour, even were it known, should not be honored by any religious observance whatsoever." - "Christmas," from The Associate Presbyterian Magazine, February, 1879.

Records-Church-Scotland-1638-Downwards.jpg "And next in particular, concerning festival days findeth that in the explication of the first head of the first book of discipline it was thought good that the feasts of Christmas, Circumcision, Epiphany, with the feasts of the Apostles, Martyrs, and Virgin Mary be utterly abolished because they are neither commanded nor warranted by Scripture and that such as observe them be punished by Civil Magistrates. Here utter abolition is craved and not reformation of abuses only and that because the observation of such feasts have no warrant from the word of God." - The Acts of the General Assemblies of the Church of Scotland, December 10, Session 17, 1638, pp. 37-38.
