What Is A Christian Nation? & More Free

160x600-Greg-Price-Puritan-Hard-Drive This may very well be the best series of sermons ever preached on this topic!

And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords. - Revelation 19:15-16, KJV

All Civil Rulers Are Obligated To Submit To The Sovereignty and Kingship of the Lord Jesus Christ According To the Bible (Free MP3s and Books)

The nations are bound to recognize the Bible as the supreme law of the land; as the standard of civil legislation. God's law as recorded in the Bible, reaches all the possible relations of humanity; extends to every duty that can be performed, and fastens its claims on associated bodies of men, as well as upon individual persons. Were this not true, we should have this monstrous anomaly in Jehovah's government, that while men, as individuals, are bound by the laws recorded in the Bible, in their congregated capacities, they may set these laws at defiance, and even contemn as citizens, what as Christians they are bound to honor and obey. ... The nations are bound to evince their subjection to the Son of God, by filling all their official stations with upright, godly and able men. ... In all their political institutions the nations are bound to subserve the interests of the church of God, and promote, truth and godliness. ... In all their civil, criminal, and international concerns, the kingdoms should have a supreme regard to the glory of God. - The Subjection of Kings and Nations to Messiah (1820) by James R. Willson on the Puritan Hard Drive

John Calvin Color Graphic

The following quote speaks of John Calvin's mature thinking about resistance to illegitimate civil rulers. "One factor behind this rising tension was that Huguenot political rhetoric had required a decidedly anti-royalist tone during the second and third civil wars. While Calvin's Institution of the Christian Religion seemed to suggest that private citizens owed their obedience even to an ungodly king -- only lesser magistrates could legally oppose the authority of a wicked king -- his biblical commentaries published late in his life offered more intriguing possibilities. In his Readings on the Prophet Daniel first published in 1561, Calvin argued that when Daniel refused to obey King Darius, 'he committed no sin', since whenever rulers disobeyed God, 'they automatically abdicate their worldly power'. Calvin went even further in his Sermons on the Last Eight Chapters of the Book of Daniel published posthumously in 1565. Describing the same biblical incident, Calvin argued that when Kings defy God, 'they are no longer worthy to be counted as princes... [And] when they raise themselves up against God... it is necessary that they should in turn be laid low'." - Mack P. Holt, The French Wars of Religion 1562-1629, (New York: Cambridge University Press, 1995, 2005), p. 78. Much by John Calvin is on the Puritan Hard Drive.

The Biblical View Church and State by the Westminster Divines, Bannerman, Owen, Cunningham, Gillespie, Symington, Smeaton, M'Crie, Price, Dilday, Barrow and Shaw (Free MP3s)

AFFILIATE-160x600-D.png Maybe now you can understand why the national reformations that took place in the OT always included the recognition and national confession of the sins of the fathers - for those sins brought God's wrath upon the nation (2 Chr. 34:21, 2 Chr. 29:6-7, 2 Chron. 30:7-9, Ezra 9:6-10:2, Neh. 9:2-37). Previous attainments and obligations continue to bind the national moral person (for more on the "moral person" of nations and churches see Scott's Distinctive Principles of the Reformed Presbyterian Church, pp. 61, 70, 195f., 285f., and Robert's The Reformed Presbyterian Catechism, p. 150). Moreover, these teachings formed the biblical basis as to why the Reformers (especially during the second Reformation) were always eager to seek out the causes of God's wrath, and repent of these, whether individual, ecclesiastical or national. The best Reformers did not try to gather together all manner of infidels, idolaters, sectarians, etc. and form some kind of general, moralistic, conservative crusade to uplift the nation - never! (Cf. Gillespie's Another Most Useful Case of Conscience Discussed and Resolved, Concerning Associations and Confederacies With Idolaters, Infidels, Heretics, or Any Other Known Enemies of Truth and Godliness in his "Treatise of Miscellany Questions", Works, volume two). They aimed at purifying and unifying the church, state and family on the basis of a covenanted uniformity - always seeking to be faithful to Christ's Crown and Covenant and shunning all suggestions of humanly based solutions to the problems of the day! They looked first to God's mercy and grace (after recognition and confession of sin of course) in their individual lives; and they weren't about to start to build on a resurrected covenant of works, after having faithfully begun building on the covenant of grace, in the civil or ecclesiastical realms either - when dealing with the reformation of church and state. This is why the Reformations under Asa, Hezekiah, Josiah, Ezra and Nehemiah all involved the biblical aspects listed below. They sought to: 1. Nationally eradicate idolatry and false religion (with iconoclastic zeal) (cf. 2 Chron. 34:3-7; 2 Chron. 31:1; 2 Chron. 15:8; 2 Chron. 15:16, etc.). 2. Nationally promote the true worship, discipline, and doctrine of the church of Christ (2 Chron. 29:11-30:6; 2 Chron. 30:12-27; Ezra 10:10vv.; Neh. 10:31-32, etc.). 3. Nationally establish the one true religion and church (cf. 2 Chron. 34:8- 17; 2 Chron. 29:3-5; 2 Chron. 31:2-3; 2 Chron. 31:20-21; 2 Chron. 32:12, etc.). 4. Nationally confess their own sins and the sins of their fathers (2 Chron. 34:21; 2 Chron. 29:6-7; 2 Chron. 30:7-9; Ezra 9:6-10:2; Neh. 9:2-37, etc.). 5. Nationally publish the truth (2 Chron. 34:30; Ezra 10:7-8, etc.). 6. Nationally renew covenant with God (with specific regard to the present testimony) and set the state upon a fully covenanted biblical pattern, agreeing to nationally obey the law of God (2 Chron. 34:31; 2 Chron. 29:10; 2 Chron. 15:12-15; Ezra 10:3-4; Neh. 9:38-10:31, etc.). 7. Nationally cause (by civil power) the inhabitants of the nation to stand to the covenant (2 Chron. 34:32-33; 2 Chron. 15:12-13; Ezra 10:5, etc.). - Dr. Reg Barrow, A Contemporary Covenanting Debate; Or, Covenanting Redivivus (Dr. Reg Barrow Debates Joe Bell, a Christian Reconstructionist), free online book. Civil Government: An Exposition of Romans 13:1-7 by James M. Willson and Other Books and MP3s Defending the Classic Reformation Position on Civil Government (Free MP3 Audio Books, Free Online Books and Other Formats)

The Lord Jesus Christ exercises, as Mediator, the offices of prophet, priest and King. The church bore ample testimony to his prophetic office, in the early ages of Christianity, in the writings of the Fathers, in their suffering to the death for holding the truth of the Bible, to be a revelation from heaven.

120x600-McMahon-top To the doctrine of his priestly office, his servants bore witness in the 16th century, when justification through faith, without the works of the law, was taught and illustrated. The conflict then was between the heresies of the Papists respecting pardon by indulgences, penances, pilgrimages and purity, on the one side; and the meritorious offering of the son of God for sinners on the other. Then was the second great article of the church's creed settled. For the truth of the priesthood of Christ, many thousand of saints laid down their lives, not counting them dear. The witnesses must finish their testimony, by bearing witness, and dying to seal it, for the princely honor and glory of him who "is Lord of lords, and Prince of the kings of the earth." To the headship of the Mediator over the church as her only Lord, in opposition to that of the Pope or of any earthly potentate, our Fathers in Great Britain, nobly bore testimony in the pulpit, by the press, on the scaffold, at the stake of the martyr, and in the field of battle at Airsmoss and Bothwell Bridge.

By the arguments which have been conducted in Europe and America against the despotic governments of the former, and the infidel regime of the latter, the church has been asserting the claims of her glorious Lord, to the homage of the commonwealths of the nations. Tyrants are yet on their thrones, and unholy republics refuse to acknowledge Him as "Lord of all."

The saints know this, mourn over it, and continue to plead with the nations, that Messiah's claims may no longer be set aside. To this topic, the following pages are consecrated. O Lord Jesus, by thy word and Spirit aid the writer, that he may ably, faithfully and successfully plead for the glory of thy kingdom that ruleth over all! ...

Prince Messiah, then, is appointed to rule as Mediator over the whole of Jehovah's dominions; he is well qualified for the kingly office; he administers the kingdom in power and righteousness; he makes the kingdom of Providence to subserve the interest of the church; for the good of Zion, the lordship of the nations is subjected to him, and all the nations commanded, by the high and holy authority of the eternal, to acknowledge him, formally, as 'Lord of all to the glory of God the Father'."

The Westminster Confession of Faith is completely Biblical. "For fidelity to Scripture, for 'logical fearlessness and power,' for 'theological comprehensiveness, and intellectual grandeur,' it is second to none" (Tallach 1980). Unfortunately, this paper is not the place to go into a comparative Biblical analysis of various creeds and confessions. However, those who investigate the matter seeking to please the Lord alone, will find that the Westminster Confession is the most Biblical. For expositions of the Confession, see Shaw ([1845] 1980) and Williamson (1964). Interestingly, the Assembly that wrote the Confession was called together by a civil government for the express purpose of composing a creed that would be used not only by the church, but also by the state. For more information on this see Hetherington's History of the Westminster Assembly of Divines ([1856] 1991, 122ff). - Dr. Michael Wagner, A PRESBYTERIAN POLITICAL MANIFESTO: PRESBYTERIANISM AND CIVIL GOVERNMENT, free online book.

Another instance in which posterity is recognized in covenant obligation is found in Joshua 9:15. This covenant was made between the children of Israel and the Gibeonites. Between four and five hundred years after that time, the children of Israel are visited with a very severe famine, in the days of David. 2 Sam. 21:1. And it is expressly declared by the Lord that, 'It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.' And at the same time, v. 2, that very covenant is recognized, and the breach of it is stated, as being the formal reason of the divine displeasure. Now, had it not been for this covenant, the extirpation of the Gibeonites would not have been imputed to Israel as a thing criminal; for they were comprehended in Canaanitish nations, which God had commanded them to root out. - William L. Roberts,  The Reformed Presbyterian Catechism (1853, emphases added), pp. 139-140, on the Puritan Hard Drive.

Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto. - Gal. 3:15, KJV

Islam in Revelation: An Historic Look at Protestant Eschatological Thought on the Rise and Fall of Islam by E. B. Elliott, Alexander M'Leod, David Steele et al.

It does seem that the fourth iron kingdom was in fact both the pre-Papal and the pre-Islamic undivided Pagan Roman Empire, as well as the later Western-Roman Papal and the contemporaneous Eastern-Roman Islamic Empire into which it then subdivided. Indeed, both 'Mahomet' and 'the Pope' -- as we have already seen -- Dr. Calvin called 'the two horns of Antichrist.' Thus they correspond to the two legs of the later Roman Empire - Islam and the Papacy. - Dr. Francis Nigel Lee, Calvin on Islam (2000), emphases added

In fact, when the classic historicist position is studied, the fulfillment in the case of Islam and Revelation chapter nine is seen to be so striking and well attested that 'even advocates of other approaches who are adamant in their rejection of the historicist system of interpretation have admitted the convincing nature of this particular identification'" - Steve Gregg, commenting on Revelation 9:1-6 in Revelation: Four Views: A Parallel Commentary, p. 176, emphases added).

ISIS Repeats the Atrocities of Muhammad Step by Step

Excerpt (emphases added): It still amazes me how the media will tell a horrific story about the brutal actions of ISIS but have absolutely no idea that ISIS following Muhammad's example to the letter. Let's look at an example.

After the Meccans gave up at the Battle of the Trench, the Muslims went home. That's when "Gabriel" came to Muhammad and ordered him to attack the Jewish tribe of Qurayza. After the Jews surrendered, Muhammad separated the men from the women and children from the grown men, brought the grown men to a trench, beheaded somewhere between 600 and 900 men, turned the women into sex slaves, and enslaved the children. Here's a passage:

Then they surrendered, and the apostle confined them in Medina in the quarter of d. al-Harith, a woman of B. al-Najjar. Then the apostle went out to the market of Medina (which is still its market today) and dug trenches in it. Then he sent for them and struck off their heads in those trenches as they were brought out to him in batches. Among them was the enemy of Allah Huyayy b. Akhtab and Ka`b b. Asad their chief. There were 600 or 700 in all, though some put the figure as high as 800 or 900. As they were being taken out in batches to the apostle they asked Ka`b what he thought would be done with them. He replied, 'Will you never understand? Don't you see that the summoner never stops and those who are taken away do not return? By Allah it is death!' This went on until the apostle made an end of them. Huyayy was brought out wearing a flowered robe in which he had made holes about the size of the finger-tips in every part so that it should not be taken from him as spoil, with his hands bound to his neck by a rope. When he saw the apostle he said, 'By God, I do not blame myself for opposing you, but he who forsakes God will be forsaken.' Then he went to the men and said, 'God's command is right. A book and a decree, and massacre have been written against the Sons of Israel.' Then he sat down and his head was struck off. (Ibn Ishaq, 464)

120x600-johnson-red-phd-easy-to-use-red-nicene.jpg A bit later we read: "The apostle had ordered that every adult of theirs should be killed" (p. 465). How did Muhammad know who had reached puberty and who hadn't? Someone who survived the ordeal tells us: The women and children were divided among the Muslims, and some of the women were traded for weapons:

Then the apostle divided the property, wives, and children of B. Qurayza among the Muslims, and he made known on that day the shares of horse and men, and took out the fifth. . . . Then the apostle sent Sa'd b. Zayd al-Ansari brother of b. Abdul-Ashhal with some of the captive women of B. Qurayza to Najd and he sold them for horses and weapons. (Ibn Ishaq, 466)

Now let's read an article about ISIS rounding up Yazidis and Christians, separating the women and children from the men, checking the pubes of young people to make sure they hadn't reached puberty, killing around 800 men, and taking the women and girls away as sex slaves.

Sound familiar? Not to the media, who are gagged by their own cowardice.

Daily Mail-A Yazidi refugee and his two nephews have told how they had to play dead to survive after they were rounded up, forced to stand next to a ditch and shot by laughing ISIS soldiers in a massacre which killed 800.

Once ISIS overran their town last August, the Yazidis were herded into a school and their armpits were inspected.

The women and girls were put on one side of the hall, to be taken away as sex slaves, while the men were lined up on the other.

Those with underarm hair were judged to be older than ten - and old enough to be murdered.

The 'men' were then split into two groups; those willing to convert to Islam and those who wanted to remain Christians.

The Christians were told that they would be taken to the Sinjar mountains and freed.

Peter Barnes Banner of Truth Author

But it was a trick - and instead they were put into trucks and taken to killing fields around the village of Kojo, northern Iraq, where they were made to stand by mass graves and executed.

Khalaf - whose name has been changed to protect his identity - told how he was one of 800 men shot at, but survived.

He was too scared to move or even breathe as he laid, covered in blood from other victims, as dead bodies fell on top of him.

Khalaf's two brothers were murdered that day, but his two nephews Kameel and Jamal, again, not their real names, lived by laying in the grave for hours while soldiers walked along checking for survivors.

If they found anyone still alive they were shot in the head to be sure they were dead.

A man lying next to Khalaf in the ditch was found by an ISIS fighter to still be breathing, so he was shot three times in the head.

Speaking from a refugee camp in Iraq, Khalaf, 42, told MailOnline: 'They [ISIS] took everybody to the big school inside Kojo. They took everything from us - telephones, money, gold.'

The jihadis ordered men and boys over the age of 10 to stand on the right and women and other children on the left.

'They tested to see if the boys had underarm hair,' he said.

The fanatics used this crude test to determine whether the Yazidi boys were old enough to be slaughtered. (Continue Reading.)
