"The third and only other kind of lottery practised by Mr. Wesley, appears to have been the toss of a piece of money. This brings up the way in which it is charged upon him, that he decided to be an Arminian. Thus in a letter from the Rev. Augustus Toplady to Mr. Wesley, in 1792, we meet withy the following, viz. 'Why should you, of all people in the world, be so angry with the doctrines of grace?

Forget not the months and days that are past. Remember that it once depended on the toss of a shilling whether you yourself should be a Calvinist or an Arminian. Tails fell uppermost, and you resolved to be an Arminian" (p. 418).

Wesley is never known to have denied this charge.
