We cannot enjoy Him unless we resemble Him, nor take any pleasure in Him if we were with Him without something of likeness to Him. Holiness fits us for communion with God. We can have no evidence of our election and adoption without it. Conformity to God in purity is the fruit of electing love: “He hath chosen us…that we should be holy” (Eph. 1:4). The goodness of the fruit evidences the nature of the root. This is the seal that assures us the patent is the authentic grant of the Prince.
