Though confession to men is a work of the voice, yet confession to God must be the voice of the heart - Thomas Brooks (Puritan Quote)

Though confession to men is a work of the voice, yet confession to God must be the voice of the heart - Thomas Brooks (Puritan Quote)

Dr. Steven Dilday on the Puritan Hard Drive

As true, penitential confession is full, so it is sincere; it is cordial; it is not a feigned nor a formal nor a mere verbal confession, but an affectionate confession; it is a confession that has the mind, the heart, the soul, as well as the lip in it. The penitent man’s confession springs from inward impressions of grace upon his soul; he feels what he confesses, and his affections go along with his confessions. The poor publican smote upon his breast and confessed (Job 42:6; Ezra 9:6; Pss. 38:4; 51:11; Isa. 26:8–9; Jer. 18:19–20; Luke 18:13). Look as the sick man opens his disease to the physician feelingly, affectionately, and as the client opens his case to his lawyer feelingly, affectionately; so the penitent opens his case, his heart, to God, feelingly, affectionately. Cold, careless, verbal, formal, customary confessions are no small abominations in the eye of God (Jer. 12:2). Such men’s confessions will be their condemnations at last; their tongues will one day accuse and denounce themselves. Though confession to men is a work of the voice, yet confession to God must be the voice of the heart.

Jim Dodson Reviews and Recommends the Puritan Hard Drive

JimDodson.jpg

If you love the Bible, then you may well be Reformed. If you think of yourself as Reformed, but you have seldom or have never read older Reformed literature, prepare to be challenged. The Puritan Hard Drive provides primary sources and depth of theological and spiritual insight which is lacking in much of what is passed off as genuine Reformed theology. If you think of yourself as conservative, the older Puritan and Reformed authors will help you sort reality from myth in your quest to be truly Reformed. There are more solid resources for less money here than anywhere else. I highly recommend you take responsibility for your soul and spend a few shekels for this cup of cold water in the midst of the modern religious desert.
